We took the wrong turning from Besalú to L'Estany de Banyoles and ended up driving around the industrial outskirts of Banyoles itself. We then thought that Banyoles was right on the lake so then eventually managed to get into town and ran around trying to find it, we finally asked someone and exasperated got back in the car to arrive and discover that I'd somehow managed to loose our road map! Despite that we liked the lake, even if it was all very 'clean'.

blurry swimmer at L'Estany de Banyoles. It was a nice time of day. It would have been good to swim too.

Late arrival at Santa Pau after getting lost for hours in a tiny track road in the middle of nowhere, partly due to having lost the map earlier in the day and thus needing to rely on a less reliable one. It was funny though - after driving an hour down a dirt track path into the heart of nowhere, passing a hermitage, we found two new built houses as part of tourisme rural, with some friendly people who invited us to dinner and led us back out the way we had come! We liked Santa Pau A LOT. Saturday 23rd April

The walk: From Santa Pau on walk number 4, then into the Volca de Santa Margarida then out towards the Area de Santa Margarida, on route 1, route 15 into the Volca del Croscat, to the Area de Can Serra, the loop of route 2 into the Fagenda d'en Jorda, then along route 3 to
Olot.It took about 6 hours. We wandered around Olot unable to find a nice place for dinner so we took a cab back to Santa Pau.

One of the only 'picturesque' views we could find of Olot. It was Sunday and everywhere was closed. Some parts of town felt not as free and easy as other places we'd been to in Catalunya, with a lot of teenagers and the odd shady character. But Olot was still good, just not 'cleaned up'. We walked past a lot of interesting graffiti and odd parts of town but I felt self-conscious and not comfortable taking photos,so now just have this pretty pretty photo which misrepresents Olot a bit.
